Maurice Bowling Middle School (MBMS) Academic Team hosted and competed in the District Governor's Cup on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Governor's Cup competition includes Future Problem Solving (FPS), Composition, Written Assessment, and Quick Recall.  MBMS students took away numerous awards at District Governor's Cup on Saturday.  
 
The Quick Recall Team took fourth place.  Members of the team are Sydney Cobb, Madison Duvall, Ellie Shera, Noah Hunter, Stefany Ryan, Dakota Edington, Jacob Hayden, Alexis Coffey, Trinity Johnson, Corey Cook, Charlie, Baumann, Brooklyn Morris, Mercedes Bourne, and Trinity Craig Allnutt. 
 
Future Problem Solvers (FPS) placed first in the district.  The FPS team consisted of 4 students:  Sydney Cobb (not pictured), Mallory Hardesty, Merideth David, and Mercedes Bourne.  These young ladies will go on to compete in the Regional Governor's Cup in a couple of weeks.      
 
The following students were recognized for their scores on written assessments and will go on to compete at Regionals on Saturday, February 4, 2017:
 
Mathematics - Sydney Cobb, Runner-Up; Mercedes Bourne, Third Place
 
Science - Corey Cook, Fourth Place
 
Social Studies - Corey Cook, First Place; Noah Hunter, Fifth Place
 
Language Arts - Ellie Shera,  First Place; Trinity Craig Allnutt, Second Place
 
Arts and Humanities - Ellie Shera, Fourth Place; Trinity Johnson, Fifth Place
 
The overall final standings, which combines points for Future Problem Solving, Quick Recall, and Written Assessments placed Maurice Bowling Middle School in First Place for the District!  In addition to these awards, MBMS also received the Katherine C. Hume Sportsmanship Award, named for the first director f the Kentucky Academic Association.  The award is especially coveted because the recipient school is selected by student representatives from all participating schools.
