OCHS TSA Clubs Competes Well at State Competitions
The OCHS Technology Student Association (TSA) recently competed at the state TSA competition, and several students finished at the top level in their events and will move on to the National TSA competition in June.  Events in which our students competed and placed included:   Dragster Design - 1st place (Zach Hall) Flight Endurance-1st & 2nd place (Richie Swigert and Seth Bush) Manufacturing prototype - 1st place (Katie Bihl, Jesse McCracken, Trevor Lykens, Kaylee Boling, Kri Tuttle) Vex robotics - 2nd place (Michael Wash, Tyler True, Nash Croley, Ben Allen) Career Preparation- 2nd place (Veronica, Chisholm) Desktop Publishing - 2nd place (Katie Bihl) Animatronics - 3rd place (Chris Sutton, Daniel Lopez) Architectural Modeling - 4th place (Dalton Mertz, Gabe Osborne, Daniel Lopez) Engineering Design – 3rd place (Jessica Willhoite, Nathan Rivera, Veronica Chisholm and Cody Downey) Best of luck to all of our students who qualified for the National Competition in Orlando in June!

OCHS We the People Team are Co-Champions of the National Invitational!
Congratulations to Mr. Kevin Webster and the OCHS We the People team for earning the Co-Championship of the first annual We the People National Invitational!  Students were asked to discuss and debate the finer points of the U.S. constitution while being questioned by a panel of constitutional scholars.  The answers were judged and tallied against several other teams-and Owen County can brag about another championship!  Well done!

2011-12 School Accountability scores released
The Kentucky Department of Education has released school accountability scores related to school performance during the 2011-12 school year.  These scores are based on school performance in five areas: Student Achievement, Performance of students in "Gap" groups (free/reduced lunch households, special education, minority and English as a Second Language students), Student College and Career Readiness, Student Growth between the PLAN test and the ACT (10th to 11th grade growth) and Graduation Rate.  Each of the five areas is given a score of 1-20, with a maximum score of 100 for all areas together.  Owen County High School's scores are: Student Achievement:     11.3 Gap Student Performance:     6.8 Student Growth:     10.4 College and Career Readiness:     9.8 Graduation Rate:     15.4 The composite score of 53.7 places OCHS in the 70% of Kentucky schools needing improvement.  School administrators and faculty are at work on a comprehensive school improvement plan for the coming school year to improve student performance and to make sure every students gets maximum benefit from their experience at OCHS.
