This is a reminder to all students who have signed up for the December 13th ACT that they will need to complete their photo upload by the end of the day on Friday, December 5th.  If students need help with this task, they can stop by and see Mrs. Kline in the College and Career Center anytime on Friday!

Also, seniors and their parents are invited to a college and financial aid information session on Monday, December 8 at 5:45pm in the OCHS Auditorium.  Preparing the FAFSA and seeking scholarships will be part of the information covered, so be sure to come and learn the steps to follow as you pay for college or technical school!

OCES takes High Attendance Day

Congratulations to Owen County Elementary for the District Win for High Attendance Day.  OCES had 98% of their 740 students at school on Thursday!

Thursday, September 18th is High Attendance Day

Owen County Schools are participating in High Attendance Day again this year.  Sponsored by the Kentucky Director of Pupil Personnel Directors Association, High Attendance Day is designed to bring attention to the association between good attendance and success in school and life.  At least one of our Owen County Schools have won the regional race over the past few years, but this year we want to win the state!  So, we need everyone here, on time, and ready to learn!  Especially on Thursday!

The PSAT is right around the corner...

The PSAT, a test given to sophomores and juniors, is used by the National Merit Scholarship Foundation to award the top testing students in America scholarships to colleges each year ($1.4 Billion since 1955).  If you would like your student to take the PSAT on October 15, please call our school counselor, Mr. Doug Wainscott at 502-484-4197.

Rebel Golfers Excel at All-A Region!!

The OCHS Rebel golf teams showed why they are the class of the district and the All-A region, with the girls' team winning the All-A region tournament for the sixth consecutive time, while the boys were team runners-up.  Justin Trusty turned in a stellar performance, posting a 75 for the round and winning the individual medalist honors for the tournament.  The girls' team and Justin will go on to represent OCHS at the All-A State tournament.  Good luck, and well done Rebels!

Cuisine Rebels Win at Kentucky State Fair!!!

The Cuisine Rebels competed at the Kentucky State Fair Jr. Chef Competition this week with their quiche recipe featuring Farm to Table products and walked away with the championship. Under the direction of Kim Webster, Family & Consumer Science Teacher for Owen County High School and Amy Chappell, Food Service Director for Owen County Schools, our students are bringing home the win. Way to go Cuisine Rebels, we are so proud of you! Owen County Cuisine Rebels Capture Region 8 Title

The Owen County "Cuisine Rebels" participated in the Kentucky Junior Chef Competition and walked away with the title of Region 8 Champions!  The Cuisine Rebels will compete for the state title in August at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville during the Kentucky State Fair. The competition consisted of a cook off with a recipe that showcased farm to table foods (locally grown foods) that could be served in the National School Lunch Program. These students actually developed their own recipe for this competition.  Congratulations to Kim Webster and her team at OCHS Culinary Arts Class!

Site-Based Parent Election Results

Congratulations to Mrs. Margaret Forsee on her election to the OCHS Site-Based Decision Making Council.  Her term will run through the spring of 2016.  Thanks to all of our parents who came out to cast a vote and who became involved in the decision-making process!

SBDM Parent Elections

While you are out at the Golden Triangle Music Festival on Saturday, April 26, please stop by the table in the gymnasium foyer to vote for the parent representative to the OCHS Site-Based Decision-Making Council.  The table will be available between 11-1 and between 4-6pm.

You may also stop by the front office of the school on Monday, April 28 to make your vote between 7:45AM-3:00PM.

We appreciate parents taking their time to be involved in making OCHS a great school for all students, parents and staff!

SBDM Parent member election nominations

Parents are invited to nominate themselves or another parent (who agrees to serve) to serve on the OCHS Site-Based Decision-Making Council for a two year term beginning in July 2014.  Parents must have students enrolled in OCHS in order to nominate or to be nominated for this seat.

You may pick up a nomination at the school's front office, or you may go to the link under the SBDM/Forms link to the left and then go to the Accountability and School Improvement folder and print a form off.  All nomination forms must be received at the front office of the school no later than 3:00pm on Friday, April 18, 2014.

Golden Triangle Music Festival - April 26, 2014

The Golden Triangle Music Festival will be held April 26, 2014 from 9:00 am - 7:00 pm at Owen County High School. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for students, 3 and under are FREE. To see the lineup and details, click here.

Preschool Screenings to be held May 16, 2014

Owen County preschool screenings will be held Friday, May 16th for children ages 3-4.  You must have the child’s birth certificate, immunization certificate, and parent/guardian’s proof of income and driver’s license/picture ID upon pre-registration.  Please contact Angie Gaines at the Board of Education at 484-3934 to schedule an appointment.

Parent Help Needed for SBDM Elections

The OCHS Site-Based Council is asking for parent volunteers to help oversee the election of a parent representative to the 2014-16 SBDM.  The help that is needed includes:

1.  Collecting nominations ahead of elections;

2.  Running the election, to be held before the end of April 2014;

3.  Tabulating the results and working with Mr. Kline to announce the results of the election.

If you are available to help take part in this process, please contact Mr. Kline by email (duane.kline@owen.kyschools.us) or by phone (502-484-4199).  Parent involvement makes a positive difference!  Thanks in advance for helping OCHS become a great place for every student to learn!

Spring Break - April 3 & 4/Last Day for Students - June 6

While there will be school on March 31, April 1, and April 2 to make up for missed days due to inclement weather, April 3 and April 4 will remain as non -school days. There will not be school on May 20 (Election Day) or May 26 ( Memorial Day).  The last day of school for students will be Friday, June 6.

Northern Kentucky Select Band Selects OCHS Student!

Congratulations and good luck to Kirsten Parker which was selected and will be performing in the Northern KY Select band this weekend at Northern KY University. She is the only student from OCHS that has been selected two years in a row to represent OCHS.

Runnin' Rebels defeat Warriors, advance to finals

Last night your Runnin’ Rebels (17-9) defeated the Eminence Warriors (7-21) 68-53 in the semi-finals of the 2014 31st District Tournament. Sophomore Carson Williams finished with a game high 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists. Senior Hunter Trenary added 14 points in the victory. Owen County will face district rival Henry Co. in the championship game Friday night at 7:00 at Carroll County. Come out and support Runnin’ Rebel Basketball!

Mr. Kline's Weekend Update for 2/14-2/15/14

Because of the heavy snowfall we received in the county last evening, we are canceling all bus transportation to events today, including the Vex State Championship at the Louisville Speed School and the Academic Team Regional competition at North Oldham HS.  We do not recommend travel this morning. We want all of our students and families to be safe!  We appreciate your understanding!

The VEX Robotics event scheduled for Owen County High School on January 17-18 has been postponed due to inclement weather.

The event has been rescheduled for Friday evening, January 24 through Saturday, January 25.  We hope to see you there!

Runnin' Rebels Advance to All-A Region Final

Your Runnin’ Rebels (10-5) defeated the Williamstown Demons (8-12) 63-51 last night to advance to the 8th Region Class “A” Championship game. Owen County was led by sophomore Carson Williams with a double-double 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. Senior Jarrod Ball finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Senior Hunter Trenary added 13 points and 2 assists in the victory. The Rebels will face 31st district rival Carroll County in tonight’s championship game, at 7:00, at Eminence High School. Come out and support the boys as they attempt to “3-Peat” as Class “A” Champs!

Celebrating the Class of 2014

It is with great pride that Owen County High School celebrates its graduates of the Class of 2014.  The following events are occuring during the week of June 2, 2014 for graduates, family and friends:

-Senior awards night is Tuesday, June 3, at 7:00pm in the OCHS auditorium.  Students receiving awards have been notified ahead of time; we hope to see students, family and friends as we honor excellence and achievement in the Class of 2014!

-The 2014 Class Night will be Thursday, June 5 at 7:00pm in the OCHS gym;

-Our Senior breakfast will take place on Friday, June 6 at the fellowship hall of the Owenton First Baptist Church.  The breakfast will begin at 8:00AM; seniors will return to OCHS for graduation practice later in the morning.  Please note that graduation practice is closed to the public.

-Graduation exercises will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, June 7.  Doors to the gym will open at 10:00am. Seating is first come, first served; we ask that seats not be "held," as we are expecting many family and friends, and we will need to seat visitors as they arrive.  We appreciate your help as we honor our graduates!

Need Help With Your Classes?

OCHS offers after school tutoring through our ESS (Extended School Services) program every Tuesday and Thursday.  You can stop by Mrs. Lauren Johnson's room after school for help any Tuesday or Thursday; this is a great opportunity to make-up any missed work you may have!

Of course, you can contact any of your teachers, any time, to set up a time when you can see them for help specific to your class.  We want you to succeed in every class you take!

Please feel free to stop by and talk with Mr. Kline, Mr. Hagg, or Mr. Wainscott anytime you want to work on a plan to improve your grades!

Runnin' Rebels Defeat Warriors

Your Runnin’ Rebels (11-6) traveled to Eminence again last night and defeated the host Warriors (2-15) 68-56. Owen County saw 9 players crack the scoring column in a balanced attack led by Sophomore Carson Williams with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. Senior Jarrod Ball added 17 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Fellow senior Hunter Trenary added 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assist. Rebel subs Mason Borchers, Vince Toftness, Chad McDonald, and Trevor Lykins combined for 13 points off the bench. The boys have a much anticipated home match-up with the top team in the 32nd district, the Simon Kenton Pioneers next Tuesday. Come out and support the Runnin’ Rebels!

Rebels Defeat Grant County

On Saturday night your Runnin’ Rebels (13-6) remained undefeated at home with a 63-59 victory over 32nd District rival Grant County High (9-12). Sophomore Carson Williams had his 17th double-double of the season with 30 points, 21 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Senior Jarrod Ball added 11 points and 4 assists in the win. The Rebels with host the North Oldham Mustangs in double-header action tomorrow night at 6:00. Come out and support Owen County Basketball!

Congratulations to the OCHS Academic Team for their success in taking third place as a team in the district competition.  They now advance to the regional competition on February 15th.  Individual honors include:
