Opening Day

Owen County Schools welcomed staff back for the 2026-2027 school year in style on Tuesday, August 18th, with its annual Opening Day Breakfast, sponsored by the Owen County Chamber of Commerce.

The morning began with a delicious breakfast that gave district staff the chance to connect with local business owners and community members before the school day officially began. Representatives from businesses across Owen County took time out of their own busy schedules to greet staff, share encouragement, and remind everyone just how invested the community is in the success of its students.

Following breakfast, staff gathered for the opening day assembly, where the district officially welcomed everyone back and introduced the new faces joining the Owen County Schools family this year. Returning staff greeted new colleagues, beginning the relationships that will carry the school year forward.

The assembly also included team-building activities designed to get staff moving, laughing, and reconnecting with one another after the summer break.

The morning concluded with the unveiling of the district's 3-year strategic plan which represents many months of collaborative work and reflects Owen County Schools' commitment to continuous improvement across every school building in the district. Staff were walked through the plan's key priorities and the direction the district is heading, along with how each department, school, and staff member plays a role in bringing that vision to life. In the end, everyone was reminded that the work ahead is shared work and that the district's success depends on every person in the room.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of the Owen County Chamber of Commerce, whose sponsorship of the Opening Day Breakfast has become a treasured tradition. The district also extended its gratitude to the broader business community and to the entire Owen County community for the consistent support shown to its schools year after year. Whether through sponsoring an event, volunteering time, or simply cheering on students and staff, that support has not gone unnoticed.

Thank you to everyone who made Opening Day such a meaningful and encouraging start to the year. Here's to a great 2026-2027 school year in Owen County Schools!
